"I have been a student at both a private and public university now. What thrills me so much about Iowa State is that, as a vocal music major, I get high-level, intimate and nuanced training that feels like a private conservatory while also experiencing a hugely diverse collegiate community outside of my lessons. I think it's a rare and exciting find!" -Bridget Johnston '19
Welcome to the Iowa State University Voice Division website! Here you will find all the information you need as it pertains to voice studies at Iowa State University. We pride ourselves on providing intimate, in depth training which allows you the opportunity to develop your own artistic voice. You need not be a music major to take private voice lessons. While availability is limited, you can inquire about studio space if you're interested in private voice study as a non-music major. A minimum skills audition is required for placement in a studio. Our program boasts many opportunities for students to strengthen themselves as performers in all genres of vocal music. Given that our music and theatre programs are in the same department, students may audition for fully staged and orchestrated operas and musicals. Students may also audition for one of our four acclaimed choir ensembles. We are proud to host world-renowned bass-baritone, Dr. Simon Estes, as the F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Artist in Residence. All students majoring in voice benefit from his vast knowledge and experience in private coachings. We invite you to explore your voice here at Iowa State University! Our expert faculty will help you navigate your path.
