Orpheus Descending

“All that time, all that lonely time, I felt I was waiting for something. For something to happen, to make things make more sense.”

In Greek myth, Orpheus could charm anyone with the power of his music.  Even in Hades, his music softened hearts and he was allowed to leave the Underworld with the woman he loved.  Tennessee Williams creates an Orpheus who is a wild-spirited young man who plays a guitar. He wanders into small southern town where he discovers he is not the only person who longs for escape and freedom. Warning: Contains offensive language.
