Esther is an African-American seamstress who creates exquisite lingerie. Her artistry is much in demand and this allows her to save a large sum of money. Her loneliness is lessened when she falls in love with a handsome Barbadian laborer. Although they have never met, he writes beautiful, romantic letters.
