Anyone with an interest in percussion is welcome to join ISU GROOVE! See the Contact Us page to contact the section leader for your instrument of interest. Section leaders will be able to answer any questions you may have about the audition process or being a member of GROOVE.
Auditions will be done in a group setting. We will audition each section individually, starting with snares, then basses, tenors, and cymbals in that order. The audition will consist of playing through the provided audition music in a group setting. Special attention will be paid to how well you can adjust to playing with those around you. A positive attitude and willingness to learn will go a long way in the audition process. Auditions generally take about 20 minutes per section, and results will be announced at the end of the adudition clinic after a breif deliberation period.
The battery consists of snares, tenors, basses, and cymbals. An audition is required to be a member of the GROOVE battery. The battery rehearses every Tuesday from 7-10PM during the spring semester. Each section of the battery will also have a 2 hour sectional every week at a time determined by the section members.
The front ensemble consists of keyboard instruments (marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, and glockenspiel) as well as auxiliary percussion instruments. No audition is required to be a member of the GROOVE front ensemble. Contact the front ensemble section leader for more information.
