Johnny Freund
Music Education Major | Drum Major, Cyclone Marching Band
As a lifelong Cyclone fan, Johnny chose Iowa State University for its Department of Music and Theatre's combination of professor dedication and support for student creativity. A passion for helping others through music led Johnny to a major in Music Education, where he finds fulfillment in teaching and the unique opportunity to master various secondary instruments.
A highlight of Johnny’s academic journey is Music Theory, a subject he enjoys for its "puzzle-like" logic. Outside the classroom, he serves as a Drum Major for the Cyclone Marching Band, citing the experience of leading 350+ musicians through Pregame as his most memorable ISU moment.
One of Johnny’s proudest accomplishments is the creation and success of DJ Johnny & the BPM, a brass band built on collaborative peer effort and faculty encouragement. The band includes four other ISU music students Looking ahead to graduation, Johnny aims to fulfill their dream of teaching high school band while continuing to perform, arrange music, and stay active in the theatre community.
