What were you involved in during your time at ISU:
I took part in SUCF'V'MB, Iowa State Singers, Cantamus, Stars Over VEISHEA productions,  Sigma Alpha Iota, and Tau Beta Sigma.

What do you currently do for a living:
I serve as a K-5 General Music and 5th Grade Band teacher at Southwest Valley schools.

Can you share a particularly interesting or inspiring story that occurred in your career?
Throughout my career as an educator, I have taught at all different levels of vocal music. The time that strikes me most is just following COVID when we returned to school the following year. My high school choir was so happy to be back together. We spent the first week catching up and singing the songs we were disappointed we missed out on performing the previous year. Their resilience and comradery still come to mind even now. That is a group of students that will forever be in my heart.

Are there other ways that you participate in your community and/or how you engage as a Citizen Artist?
I am the president of the Corning Opera House board. I frequently perform, direct, and assist shows in the community. I am also the director of the SWV High School fall play.

How did your time at ISU prepare you for your career?
I couldn't do what I do without my years at ISU. I was able to be involved in ensembles, join Greek-based organizations, and become a family with my cohort. ISU music department seriously has the best professors.

What was your favorite class while you were at ISU? Why?
Iowa State Singers, Cantamus, and Music History are some of my favorites. Dr. Rodde is 100% of the reason I chose ISU. He believed in my potential and was always reminding me that I could do hard things. Dr. Sturm and Dr. Work were so fun to learn from as well. They held a high standard and even when I struggled, I still felt that I was growing and learning beyond my expectations.

How was your involvement in music and theatre beneficial in different parts of your life?
I am the person I am because of these things. They inspired me and drove my love of learning, and I am so, so grateful. I only wish I could go back and enjoy it all over again

Any words of wisdom for current or prospective students?
ISU is the place to go. Amazing professors, gorgeous campus, and one of the best decisions I've ever made. Enjoy every bit of it from the fun and silly to the challenging and gut-wrenching frustration. The whole experience shapes who you will become.
