In addition to Theatre, what are you involved with here at ISU and beyond? I am currently an intern at the Octagon Center for the Arts. There, I have been working on promotional videos. I also work for Americorps and I have been developing a devised theatre workshop for kids in 4-H.
What music and theatre projects are you working on right now or have recently completed? I just wrapped up with the Queer Renaissance Project. It was a showcase of art created by LGBTQ+ artists, featuring visual media, poetry, and theatre. The QRP was the most ambitious project I've ever taken on, and it was a tremendous success as we raised funds for OneIowa. I also recently performed with Iowa Insect Pageant as a puppeteer. I am excited for the opportunity to bring theatre outdoors.
What is your favorite thing about your experiences at Iowa State? My favorite thing about Iowa State is finding the wonderful community we have within the Theatre department. I am grateful to be able to make theatre with such wonderful friends who are loving and accepting of who I am.
Why did you choose the department of Music and Theatre at ISU? Initially, I chose ISU because I liked the campus more than UNI, but I quickly learned about citizen artistry. I am glad I chose ISU theatre because it taught me how theatre can make the world a better place.
What are your plans after graduation? I plan to move to Minneapolis this summer. I haven't got a specific plan beyond that, but I hope that I can continue to work in the arts while I'm there.
Any words of wisdom for prospective students? Sometimes, we can be our own worst enemy. Don't tell yourself that you can't do something. If you have a dream, do what you can to make it reality. It can't all happen at once. Just take it a step at a time.
