Kevin Judge with Fort Dodge SymphonyOn Sunday, February 27thKevin Judge performed the world premiere of Blueprint for Bassoon and Orchestra by Nicole Chamberlain with the Fort Dodge Symphony. The piece was commissioned by the Fort Dodge Symphony in tribute to their former principal bassoon, and Iowa State alum, Jerry Sande. Jerry passed away in August of 2018.

“Our paths first crossed when I started working at Iowa State in 2012,” Kevin remembered of Jerry. “He was a very generous and good-natured person. I was humbled when I found out that he donated his Heckel bassoon to our program. It will be played for many years to come!”

In addition to the performance, Nicole Chamberlain gave a masterclass to Sonja Giles’ flute studio while in town for the premiere of her composition. Ms. Chamberlain is a successful composer and flutist. Her original compositions are influenced by storytelling and visual imagery, and she was able to share her time and approach to her craft with Iowa State’s flute studio.
