ISU Honor Choir

Dear Colleague:

As you plan your events for the coming year, we would like to remind you and your students of the unique festival on the Iowa State University campus: the ISU HONOR CHOIR. Now in its 20th year, this event, to be held February 9-10, 2020 is designed to honor the top high school music students in the region and has been sanctioned by the Iowa Music Educators Association. The full details of the Festival are provided in the neighboring files.

Membership in the Honor Choir will be selected through live auditions, which I will personally administer. All interested high school music students, grades 10-12, are invited to audition at one of the audition sites listed in the General Information file. If travel prohibits being at one of the sites, a video audition process is in place. For details on this process, simply contact me. The audition fee is $10.00 per student.

To reserve audition times for your students, please return the attached registration form and check payable to “Iowa State University” by Monday, October 7 to:

Iowa State University
Music Department – Honor Choir
149 Music Hall
Ames, IA 50011-2018

Feel free to scan and email the form to me, should you wish to do so. An exact audition schedule will be emailed to each participating director by Monday, October 14. Please post this material and encourage your students to audition.

For the festival in February, participating students must make their own housing arrangements. Evening meals and music packets, however, will be furnished by Iowa State University, as a gesture to honor these students. This festival is an excellent opportunity for your students to experience the musical challenges offered by being part of a highly select group of young musicians in the region. Honor Choir members also have the opportunity to hear five ISU choral ensembles in performance. We are very interested in meeting your students, and we look forward to hearing from you.
