Heartland Marimba Recital: September 12, 2025
Heartland Marimba was founded in 2014 by solo marimba artist Matthew Coley. As the executive/co-artistic director, Coley works closely with the other company artists to support and celebrate the classical marimba/keyboard percussion art form through regular, annual engagements. Their steady commitment benefits performers, students, communities, and composers. With a multifaceted model, HM produces and presents a multitude of events each season. The organization has an artist roster of some of the most dynamic performers on the scene today, which facilitates engagements for the HMQuartet and the HMEnsemble. HM has performed with the Cheyenne Symphony and Dubuque Symphony Orchestras, has been featured twice at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Stuttgart World Marimba Competition, and the Canadian Percussion Network Conference, and maintains a vibrant annual schedule touring the nation. In addition, HM publishes music with more than 85 titles, including the well-respected books “Miniature Creations” etude book, “Opinions on the Marimba” interview book, and “Vessels of Song,” a Klezmer research and mallet ensemble book. HM will begin its 11th season, “Echoes and Evolution,” with a performance in Canada, a collaboration with the Iowa Composers Forum, and additional touring in the Midwest. The season continues with ten more tours, which include several firsts for the company, such as a performance featuring 100 singers, a guest appearance at the National Music Museum, and hosting the Musser Marimba Festival in Pennsylvania.
