Wind Ensemble: October 6, 2023
The ISU Wind Ensemble is a highly acclaimed musical group known for their exceptional talent and captivating performances. With a diverse repertoire that spans across genres and styles, they bring a fresh and innovative approach to wind music. Whether performing on campus, at prestigious venues, or in the community, the Iowa State University Wind Ensemble continues to make a significant impact in the world of wind music, earning acclaim and admiration both locally and nationally.
This concert will feature an exciting and diverse program, including:
- Burning the Wicker Man, by Julie Giroux… a fiery work!
- Colors, by Bert Appertmont… featuring student trombone soloist Alex Schwarte in a “colorful” work celebrating the trombone.
- Lincoln Portrait, by Aaron Copland… featuring Brad Dell, Chair of the Department of Music & Theatre as the narrator in a work that at times is dark, challenging, pensive, hopeful, and triumphant.
- English Dances – Set II, by the British composer Malcolm Arnold… led by guest conductor Barry Martin, Director of Bands at Grand Valley State University (MI).
- Aurora Awakes, by John Mackey… in a work heralding the coming of light that moves from placid grey to a startling rainbow of color and energy!
Tickets are $5 cash/check only and will be available to purchase at the door 30 minutes prior to the concert.
