Audition information for Dry Land

Audition Details for ISU Theatre’s Dry Land

By Ruby Rae Spiegel

Director – Alyson O’Hara (alysono@iastate.edu)

Dry Land description:

“Two teen-aged girls on a Florida high school swim team navigate the precarious path to female adulthood and friendship in Ruby Rae Spiegel’s honest, meaningful and intense 90-minute drama, ‘Dry Land.’ It premiered in New York City when Spiegel was only 21 years old, and the author captures fully the emotional turmoil of girls too soon reaching womanhood.

Amy is pregnant by a boy she no longer dates, and who does not appear as a character in the drama. Florida law mandates parental notification for an abortion, and since Amy doesn’t want her mother to know about her situation, she seeks help from the internet, entreating Ester’s cooperation with schemes from being punched in the belly, to using laundry detergent, to taking the abortion pill.”
