Climate Change Theatre Action 2021 description
This will be a new touring production focused on encouraging student and community participation in the current climate action planning process for Ames, Iowa. The production will be a collection of short performance pieces (plays, poetry, movement, and music) shared on location in community spaces. In partnership with the international Climate Change Theatre Action initiative, the MFA Program in Creative Writing & Environment, and The EcoTheatre Lab.
Audition Details
Monday and Tuesday, August 30-31
6:00 – 8:00 pm, outside Carver Hall, ISU. Please sign up for an audition time at Sign Up Genius.
Callbacks (if necessary): Wednesday, September 1
Audition locations in case of inclement weather: August 30, 0204 Carver Hall; August 31, 0305 Carver Hall; September 1, 0305 Carver Hall.
Roles Available
Anyone of high school age or older in the ISU, Ames, and surrounding communities is welcome to audition. No prior experience required. An ensemble of 12-20 performers will be cast.
What to prepare?
Auditions are open to actors, dancers, and musicians.
All: Auditions will most likely be held outdoors. Please bring your academic/work schedule and known conflicts for September & October.
Actors/Dancers: There is no need to prepare anything in advance, as audition materials will be provided. Be prepared for cold readings and movement.
Musicians: Please bring your instrument and prepare a piece of your choice (no more than two minutes, please).
Production Details
Rehearsals will generally be held during afternoons and/or evenings, beginning in September.
Performances dates will include the following. Performers must be available for the September 23 and October 3 performances, but the remaining performances are not mandatory (but as many as possible would be wonderful):
- Monday, September 20th, 12:00 p.m., Monday Monologues, Parks Library steps
- Thursday, September 23rd, 5:15 p.m., South Library Lawn
- Saturday, September 25th, 8:00-12:30: Farmers’ Market
- Saturday, September 25th, 10-11a and 12-5 p.m., Play Ames: Imagine your City community engagement festival (four locations throughout Ames)
- Sunday, September 26th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Octagon Center for the Arts Festival, Downtown
- Sunday, October 3rd, 3 p.m., Ames Public Library outdoors (reserved 1-5 p.m.; auditorium as a rain location)
- Saturday, October 9th, 9-12:30: Farmers’ Market
- Saturday, October 16th, 9-12:30: Farmers’ Market
In addition to the September 23 and October 3 performances, members of the cast will have the opportunity to tour to additional community spaces and events during the fall semester. These dates will be coordinated around performers’ schedules.
Credit Availability
2-3 Credits of Theatre 301x available.
