Service

Alyson Lutz, a Pi class initiate, once said, “Service, it’s what we do.”  This simple statement truly sums up what it means to be a brother of KKΨ.  The brothers of Iota Omega are dedicated members of the bands here at Iowa State University.  We believe that service to the ISU band program fosters responsibility, loyalty, and leadership.  In order to give you some ideas of what we do, here is a list of some of our larger projects.

Marching Band Uniforms
One of the largest projects we participate in each year is to work with our sisters from TBΣ to manage the marching band uniforms.  At the beginning of each year, we help hand out uniforms to all of the band members.  During the year, we organize one or two occasions that members can have their uniforms dry cleaned for a reduced price.  At the end of the year, uniforms are gathered and reorganized for the next year.  Seeing as how there are over 320 members of the ISUCF”V”MB, we take care of a lot of—often times smelly—uniforms.

Band Concerts
The project that is sometimes the most rewarding is our involvement with various band concerts throughout the school year.  The brothers of KKΨ and the sisters of TBΣ help take money, usher, and set up the stage for Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble concerts.  In return, we are able to listen to an array of amazing music.

Service Projects
Throughout the school year, there are many small things that require our assistance.  As time marches on, equipment in Music Hall tends to wear down.  As service volunteers, we are more than happy to help out with some of the odd jobs that directors and band members would like to see done.  We help tighten stands, fix shelves in “The Cage” (an actual cage where school instruments are kept), build cabinets for the drum line, etc.  As part of the initiation project, new classes are required to complete a service project, and there is no shortage of projects to complete.  Some past projects include organizing the marching band history in Parks Library, reorganizing the music library, and building a podium.

These are just a couple of the many things KKΨ does.  If you’d like to learn more, travel to the committees page and e-mail our service chair.  Also, there are some links on this left side of this page that you can see what we have been up to lately.
