Program Notes

Gary White
Mr. White is Assistant Professor of Music Theory at Iowa State University. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in composition from the University of Kansas, and is presently a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Composition at Michigan State University. He has studied composition with John Pozdro, H. Owen Reed, and Paul Harder. Other compositions by Mr. White include the incidental music to the recent Iowa State Laboratory Theater production of Irwin Shaw's Bury the Dead, A Canticle of Daniel for mixed chorus and brass ensemble, a string quartet, a woodwint quintet, for pieces for Carillon (frequently performed by Ira Schroeder) and many other works. The composition appearing on this program is the first movement of a three movement work for full symphony orchestra. It was begun in 1966 and the final movements have just recently been completed.

Eugene Pridonoff
Mr. Pridonoff joined the faculty of the ISU Department of Music in September 1968 as Artist-in-Residence and Chairman of the Piano Division. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Rudolph Serkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski. He holds a Master's degree from Temple University where he was a member of the faculty before coming to Iowa State University. Mr. Pridonoff has participated with notable success in a number of major competitions throughout the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Russia. He has appeared as soloist with many symphony orchestras including the Philadelphia Symphony, the Los Angels Philharmonic, the National Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic and the California Chamber Symphony.

Appearing also in tonight's performance is Mrs. Bonnie Pridonoff, first bassoonist. Like her husband, she has performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Symphony, and has concertized widely in the Philadelphia area in orchestras and chamber music groups.
