Peter Kortenkamp

Lecturer in Horn


Peter Kortenkamp is a member of the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Quad City symphonies and is an active freelancer around the Midwest. He has also played principal horn for the La Crosse (WI) and the Central Wisconsin symphony orchestras.

Mr. Kortenkamp received a B.M. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying with Douglas Hill and while there was awarded the John Barrows Scholarship. He earned his M.M. from the University of Akron under the instruction of William Hoyt, of the NFB horn quartet.

As a student Mr. Kortenkamp attended the National Orchestral Institute and the Sarasota Music Festival. He also spent two summers in Graz, Austria in the festival orchestra of the American Institute of Musical Studies. In addition, Mr. Kortenkamp holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Iowa and enjoys improvisation, distance running and writing.
