Dr. Julie Sturm, Visiting Assistant Professor of Cello at Central College, is an active recitalist and chamber musician. She has performed extensively in the United States, Germany, Israel, Austria, Mexico, and South Korea. Dr. Sturm holds a Bachelor's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a Master's degree from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Her principal teachers were David Geber, Bonnie Hampton, and the late Gabor Rejto.


Dr. Sturm has been a recipient of a Fulbright Grant for research in Germany, and spent four years as an active artist-teacher in Munich. She has been a faculty member of the Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts in the Boston area, the New England Conservatory of Music pre-college division, and Assistant Professor of cello and music theory at Drake University. In addition to her current position at Central College, Dr. Sturm is cellist of the Central College Fine Arts Trio, adjunct music theory faculty at Iowa State University, and Principal Cellist of the Des Moines Symphony.
